Dear new Wineskins advertising customers:

We’re pleased that you’re interested in advertising with new Wineskins.

In the ninth year of the Wineskins’ publication, The Zoe Group, Inc. acquired the magazine (May 2001). The magazine was started in 1992 by Phillip Morrison, Rubel Shelly, and Mike Cope.  Rubel and Mike will continue as co-editors of the magazine, while the Zoe Group will manage and produce the magazine.

Under this new management, the magazine’s name has been changed to new Wineskins, a name which both fits the redesign of the magazine and reminds our readership that we seek to freshly engage our culture with the living Christ.

At new Wineskins, we are committed to searching for bold but responsible action in obeying Christ’s call to take the gospel to the world.  Our goal is to be one of God’s many tools for those who seek to experience the living Christ. For you, our advertisers, we want to help you reach our spiritually seeking readership with services, resources, and products that match the Christian character of our magazine.

We publish six times a year.  We pledge to our advertisers and readers to publish every issue on time.  Issues go out by the first day of January, March, May, July, September, and November.  As of June 2001, the magazine has a circulation 18,000.  The Zoe Group, Inc. is targeting a total subscription of 25,000 by 2002, and advertising rates will keep pace with the increases in circulation.

We recently surveyed our readership, and we are pleased that 25 percent of those who received surveys responded.  Here are some vital statistics from those who responded to our readership survey: one-third of those who responded are female.  Fifty percent are 25-55 years old.  Nearly 25 percent of respondents said they earn more than $100,000.  Nearly 50 percent say they earn $51,000-100,000.  The majority of respondents classify their work as professional, while approximately 10 percent say they are homemakers.  The remaining respondents said they own businesses, work in technical, government, and executive occupations.  Ninety percent of respondents named Church of Christ as their religious affiliation, while three percent named the Christian church, and the remaining respondents named various other churches as their religious affiliation.

If you are experienced in placing ads with magazines or have advertised with us in the past, take a look at our specifications on page two and three of this letter.  This gives contact information, rates, and formatting for your advertisements.  If you are less experienced in advertising, please go to page four, where you’ll find a step by step guide to advertising with new Wineskins.

We’re ecstatic about what we see God doing through the many supporters, writers, staff, editors, advertisers, and readers who have a renewed vision for the magazine.  We hope you are excited about the changes you will see in the coming years.

To His glory,

Eric Noah-Wilson
Executive Director
The Zoe Group, Inc.

Steps to advertising in new Wineskins

Step 1:  Know your target audience

Decide if the audience you are targeting to promote your product, college, organization, or service is best reached by advertising with new Wineskins.  The magazine has roots in the Churches of Christ and many readers are members of the Churches of Christ and Christian Churches.  We are targeting a wider evangelical Christian audience, however, as we include Christian writers of many backgrounds and denominations.  We want to connect with Christian churches in all denominations that wrestle with issues of church restoration and renewal.

Step 2:  How much do you want to spend?

Our prices are designed to give you more value for purchasing more space per page.  All advertising rates above are effective through the end of 2001.  The rates for 2002 will reflect a greater circulation of the magazine and those rates will be published in November 2001.

Step 3: What concepts do you have for your ad?

Are you selling a product or service?  Or are you promoting your organization?  When you’ve understood who you want to target, how much you want to spend, what you want to promote, you are ready to get the concept for an ad.  Before hiring a graphic designer or speaking to a designer in your firm, you need to have a basic idea grasp on these first three steps.  We are currently accepting classified ads only on our web page, which will officially open no later than January 2002. For you, our advertisers, we want to help you reach our spiritually seeking readership with services, resources, and products that match the Christian character of our magazine.

Step 4: Hire a graphic designer

After deciding on the target, how much you want to spend, the concept, you ought to have a graphic designer begin sketching your ad or putting together a design proof.  If you are not familiar with graphic design, a graphic designer is a must because new Wineskins reserves the right to deny submission of ads that looks graphically poor and negatively affects the overall impact of our magazine.  You will also need to have color separations done, which takes the expertise of a graphic designer who knows the craft well.  See also pages 2-3 for more specs on advertisement design and formats.

Step 5: Contact us

We will need to discuss with you at this point when your ad can appear in new Wineskins and how much it will cost.  We want to answer any questions you have and communicate about your ad to make you comfortable with your decision on the ad space, design, and pricing.  Also, if you have not been able to get graphic design done and need help with this, we can give you suggestions on how to accomplish this.

email: wineskinsmagazine@msn.com

Step 6: Send your ad

When graphic design on your ad is complete please review the submission requirements and send to:

Wineskins Magazine
PO Box 14028
Nashville, TN 37204-1028

Step 7: Publication of your ad and payment

The payment for your ad is due upon publication of the magazine containing your ad.  You will be billed at the same time that particular issue of the magazine goes out.

Step 8: Stay in touch with us

We like to know our advertising clients and want to stay in touch with you.  Please stay in contact with us throughout the year, because we will be running special advertising sections for Christian colleges, publishers, and church ministry services in specific issues.

New Wineskins is a contemporary magazine that seeks to help churches and Christians engage and transform culture in the image of Christ and the cross. While Wineskins magazine began in 1992 with roots in the Restoration movement, churches of Christ, and the Christian Churches, we are seeking to dialogue with Christians in all Christian denominations who lift up Christ as the son of God, Lord, and Savior and who are seeking unity and discussion between traditional and contemporary worship styles, interpretive methods, evangelistic and preaching styles. Contributors to our magazine in 2001 include Lynn Anderson, Max Lucado, Rubel Shelly, Mike Cope, Randy Harris, Leonard Sweet, Larry Crabb, and Greg Taylor.
